 I came across these photos I took a few springs ago while chaperoning my son's field trip to our local Sarett Nature Center's Butterfly House. I always take way to many pictures- as the butterflies' lazy flutter through the space is mesmerizing to me, each one a jewel to be discovered. Each year I study the guide sheet, sure I'll remember which is an Admiral, which the Painted Lady...but alas, the names escape me, as ephermeral as the insects they describe. I stand at the nursery window, transfixed as they wiggle out of their transparent casings, slowly shaking out their crumpled wings, their legs stretching and antennae searching. The entire transformation process is a wonder for me to behold. I really could sit there all day...
