I have a confession to make. I have a Bermuda Grass infestation. I know, right?! It started in when we were using part of the lawn for a holding area. The stolons came in on some Russian Sage we removed for a client. We thought we could control it by treating it with herbicide and rototilling it under. We were wrong. It has taken over our lawn, and is moving into the landscape beds. I have a horrid spot of it in my asparagus patch- which has since migrated into the herb garden.
It's like the herpes of gardening. Todd and I have had many whispered conversations: "I think I'll try to use a stronger chemical this time." "Oh, but I hate the dead spots in the lawn all summer and that didn't work last time, anyway, remember?" We no longer invite our horticulturally inclined friends over. It's so embarrassing. Let this be a lesson to you! Please, practice safe gardening. Inspect your plant purchases for weeds before bringing them home, and never, never, accept an unknown division from a "friend". How's this for a blood chilling statement: Cultural management of bermudagrass for removal is not possible.It's the only thing listed for management of Bermuda Grass on the MSU Turf website... |
